Date Festival, America’s Popular Music, and History of the Desert – (Activity Level: 2) - Participants will attend the colorful Date Festival in the 'Date Capital of the World'. The festival includes entertainment, camel & ostrich races, gems, photo & art exhibits, food demos, 72 varieties of dates and an evening pageant. Date shake included. Investigate America's musical heritage, including minstrel shows, vaudeville, jazz, and Broadway and motion picture musicals. A professional musician performs and relates historical anecdotes about the music, composers, and performers. Why is this a desert? What plants survive in this barren land? Why do dates taste so good? How are the 125 golf courses kept green? What is the story of the Native American casinos?
